Mole Vanvitelliana and Omero State Tactile Museum, Ancona

Perceptions invites the audience to explore the theme of Retro-Futurism, where historical aesthetics and futuristic visions intertwine to reinterpret the past through contemporary practices, processes, skills and technologies. PERCEPTIONS, as the event’s keyword indicates, suggests an inquiry into the nature of sensory perception, questioning how digital and material can redefine our relationship with cultural heritage.

Through a collaboration with the Omero State Tactile Museum, visitors will enjoy an immersive sense-perceptual experience that blends touch, art, and design with projections into the future.

It will begin with the Opening, an inaugural event featuring institutional figures and keynote speakers. Topics will include Retro-Futurism, sensory perception, and the evolving relationship between art and technology.

Table Talks will transform the Powder Room into a real space for dialogue and discussion. Here, experts in the field will discuss touch aesthetics, museum accessibility and multimedia innovation, exploring the new challenges of digital cultural heritage.

The Genius Academies, starting in the afternoon, will offer opportunities for in-depth lectures on key topics such as unconventional museums and the value of experience, the impact of technology on sound perception and musical performance, immersive video installations between history and interactivity, and design for museums, between innovation and accessibility. The latter are free admission, with reservations required at the following links:

The art of AFAM students and Italian artists takes shape in PopUp Shows, an immersive exhibition that will give space to interactive works and installations, created in collaboration with cultural institutions and industry partners. An experience to live and touch, among video, light and matter.

The first leg of The AFAM Roadshow is carried out under the patronage of the City of Ancona.

Highlights from Ancona

April 9 was the inaugural date of THE AFAM ROADSHOW, which saw GTA partners and many professionals from the field of Cultural Heritage and beyond gather at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona for an intense and inspiring day themed “Perceptions – Retro-Futurism.”

The Mole Vanvitelliana and the Sala Polveri, thanks to the patronage of the Municipality of Ancona and the support of Ancona Servizi, have become spaces for experimentation and discussion among artists, researchers and designers, teachers and students, cultural operators and local institutions. A place where cultural heritage meets digital innovation, creating a unique experience.

But not only that. The Omero State Tactile Museum also took part in this intense exchange and confrontation: the conference room, surrounded by “to touch” busts and capitals, and the Design room, scattered with design objects, precisely, the fruit of Italian ingenuity from the 1970s to the present, were for a few hours a collector of voices, of narratives about creativity, technology and the man-machine relationship.

Various cities on the Adriatic coast, as well as villages and towns in the Marche hinterland, brought their voices, through experts and professionals in the field to Ancona, in order to establish new project relationships, strengthen already active understandings, and confront sometimes frontier visions, thanks to contributions and activities related to Spain, the Netherlands, India and France.

A concrete and close contamination, under the banner not only of intellectual and theoretical research, but also practical and tangible, dealing with uncomfortable topics, “emergencies” in the sector, leading issues and desires still in the drawer by the scientific community and economic operators active in the national Cultural Heritage sector.
