Welcome to my Carnival 1
Combining the irony of Carnival and the satire of James Ensor to address the theme of alienation in modern society. Italy’s first carnival, the Fano Carnival, and the art of Ensor known for his caricatures that mock life, come together representing all those people alienated by today’s society.
The silhouettes are inspired by the costumes and volumes of circus and carnival characters. Irony is also present on the prints with political caricatures showing people trapped in roles they did not choose. Fabrics and colors evoke formal office attire, contrasting with the circus appearance to emphasize the dichotomy between professional facade and alienated interiority.
