“Your normalcy is my extraordinariness.”
With this sentence, Seyedehpaniz Emadi – a student at RUFA Rome University of Fine Arts – encapsulates the profound meaning of her project ” Mirror “: a mock documentary that explores the contrast between two worlds, two societies, two gazes.
Arriving in Italy from Iran, Seyedehpaniz recounts her discovery of a simple yet revolutionary freedom: walking down the street without a veil, feeling the wind in her hair, belonging to a space that does not judge.
Through the lens of his project, he shows how everyday gestures-walking, laughing, moving freely-can take on opposite meanings depending on cultural context.
Mirror, a GTA Contest finalist project, thus becomes an invitation to look beyond the reflection, to recognize the value of freedom and diversity, and to question what we define as “normal.”
