Lo era is the short film – by RUFA student Mate Rajnai – that recounts the shared journey of two generations: a grandfather and grandson who cross the Garbatella in search of a way to see Italy’s last game at the World Cup. But for Francesco, who lives with Parkinson’s, and Nino, overcome with anxiety, that simple journey becomes one filled with obstacles, fears and small acts of courage.
During the odyssey, they have to overcome external obstacles, caused by their inner fears, illness or lack of self-confidence, and their physical difficulties, such as illness and being in a child’s body.
As they slowly approach their goal, they learn to understand each other better, understand why Nino loves soccer and Grandpa hates it, why Nino doesn’t care about old things, and why Francis clings to the past with all his might.
As they approach their destination, the two discover a new way to connect with each other and the world, learning to recognize the beauty hidden in the little things. Lo era focuses on the silent sacrifices that parents and grandparents make every day to create a normal life for their children, and shows how an ordinary day can become something extraordinary through the eyes of two generations coming together.
The project, along with all the finalist works from the “Normal is Extraordinary” international contest , will be on display at the MAXXI Corner from Dec. 5 to 8 (free admission).
