Endo

Project

Visual Arts

“Endo ” is one of the finalist projects of the GTA contest curated by Francesca Morelli, a student of Accademia Italiana.

This is the story of a five-year quest and subsequent living with a chronic inflammatory disease that, like many others, is closely related to the phenomenon of underdiagnosis and underinvestment in medical resources: endometriosis.

Those living with a chronic illness are confronted daily with a normality that is different, in its own way extraordinary in the strictest sense of the word: out of the ordinary, out of the normality of healthy people. It is a condition that makes one feel different but at the same time confronts the individual with the need to recognize himself or herself in his or her uniqueness and unrepeatability, in order to achieve a more conscious coexistence vis-à-vis a body that functions differently but is still made of emotions, skin, and sensations.

As an autobiographical work, on the one hand it embraces the personal interest of spreading knowledge and raising the viewer’s awareness of the subject; on the other, it exploits the potential of photography to externalize and thus exorcise suffering as it is represented in a new form.

The work, along with all the finalists of the “Normal is Extraordinary” international contest, will be on display at the MAXXI Corner from December 5 to 8 (free admission).
