Burning in the Bones

Project

Visual Arts

” Burning in the Bones,” a finalist project of the international contest “Normal is Extraordinary, curated by Egle Guardalobene – a student of RUFA Rome University of Fine Arts.

The project stems from the idea that the life experiences of each of us leave a unique and unrepeatable imprint, not only in the mind, but also in the body, which becomes a silent witness to what we go through.

It is the body, in fact, that remembers when the mind tends to forget, turning every emotion into a tangible trace, perceptible “down to the bone.”

To visually restore this deep memory, Egle Guardalobene uses X-ray plates of various sizes and dried flowers, carefully arranged to evoke the emotions that generated them.

The slabs are displayed by means of lightboxes on a wall of size 35x30cm and 33x48cm, with the aim of recalling the real purpose of the slabs and enhancing their perception.

The work, along with the other finalist projects of the “Normal is Extraordinary” international contest, will be on display at MAXXI in Rome from Dec. 5-8, 2025.
