” Artieri ” – by Giada Ferti, a Modartech Institute student, GTA Contest finalist.
Since the beginning of time, the Volterran community has based much of its art and economy on alabaster, the magical stone that the Craftsmen shaped to create objects of art and decoration.
From time immemorial, workshops have whitewashed citizens with chalk dust, while white stone is transformed into amazing sculptures. This contrast-between raw material and finished work-becomes the focus of the Artieri collection.
Shapes, inspired by alabaster workwear, enhance functionality and durability: rugged jackets, wide pants with reinforced inserts, and revisited aprons. Fabrics evoke the transparency and raw nature of alabaster, with dyes that mimic natural veining and treatments that evoke workshop dust.
The palette explores limestone neutrals and color infiltration, while high-tech elements, such as integrated LED lights, evoke the transparency and brightness of the stone, also employed for buttons and small figurines made by local artists.
Artieri is a tribute to craftsmanship and transformation-a dialogue between past and present, between art and labor.
The work will be on display at the Maxxi in Rome Dec. 5-8 during the AFAM Grand Festival, the concluding event of the AFAM Grand Tour.
