” A todos lados ” is one of the finalist projects of the GTA Contest, signed by Candelaria Dios, a student at NABA.
The short film focuses on the young adult immigration experience, reflecting the process with its ups and downs. Mavi, the main character, is an Argentinian girl who has recently moved to Milan and is enjoying all the pleasures of living alone abroad. She narrates this journey through voice messages to her deceased grandmother, to whom she still turns for her emotional problems.
Over the course of weeks, Mavi’s rose-colored glasses stop working and loneliness begins to set in. The combination of stress and inexperience living alone negatively affects her sleep and eating habits, plunging her into a spiral that leads to depression. It is her mother’s voice, telling her about her grandmother’s last letter to Mavi, that brings her back to reality. Hearing the words she needs in that moment offers her no magical solution to her problems, but the pain becomes more bearable.
The core of the film is the inner world of Mavi, who is forced to adapt to a new normal that she is not yet ready to face. Trapped by her stubborn way of facing challenges alone, she is the victim of a vicious cycle that consumes her from within, making her feel miserable in a bustling city.
