Santa Chiara Cinema, Rende

Dissemination event

What makes an artist eternal? What transforms a talent into a genius capable of dialoguing with every era, arousing emotions and questions that are always relevant? These are the questions that students from the non-state Fine Arts Academies belonging to the GTA – Grand Tour AFAM project will try to answer, during the two-day screening of unreleased short films at the Santa Chiara cinema in Rende (Cs).

On Tuesday, April 21 from 4 p.m. and Wednesday, April 22 from 10 a.m. it will be the Santa Chiara cinema, one of the oldest in Italy, that will host research and screenings dedicated to Federico Fellini. His cinema, poetic, visionary, deeply human, was able to mark an era and at the same time surpass it, imposing itself as a shared imaginative and symbolic heritage.

Internationally renowned directors (such as Daniele Ciprì, Alain Parroni and Mino Capuano) experts and professors(Veronica Citi, Giulio Pernice, Pietro Ciccotti, Alessandro Carpentieri), students and former students(Sabrina La Macchia, Laura Ettori, Marco and Aurelia Petrolini) have thus reanalyzed the great master by relocating him in their own way in the contemporary world. The basic idea is that Fellini’s language, while rooted in the cultural and historical context of the Italian twentieth century, possesses an evocative power and an ability to analyze reality that project with surprising naturalness into the present. His focus on humanity in its most contradictory forms, from outcasts to intellectuals, from madmen to saints, from grotesque to ethereal figures, is more relevant today than ever before. For this reason, the project was conceived not as a simple commemoration, but as a laboratory of experimentation and cultural and artistic research, aimed at triggering a direct dialogue between Fellini’s language and contemporary sensibilities. In particular, there was a desire to give voice to new generations of creatives.

The project consists of two days of discussion and screenings. In this dynamic and innovative context, the research carried out by Prof. Raffaele Simongini on Federico Fellini will be presented and short films, documentaries, animations and experimental audiovisual projects included in the project itself will be screened. Moderating and introducing the works will be reporter Valeria Oppenheimer, a well-known face of Rai 2, who has always been linked to the world of art and contemporary culture. Special guest speaker Daniele Ciprì: undisputed protagonist of contemporary cinema.
