When people meet

Project

Visual Arts

“When People Meet” by NABA student Caterina Planine stems from the idea that in the flow of everyday life what appears normal can turn out to be extraordinary.

The project graphically investigates the meeting between two people and the slow, delicate process by which a relationship takes shape over time.

Through an essential and symbolic visual language, the author explores the emotional and behavioral dynamics that emerge between two individuals: empathy, attraction, listening, conflicts, contrasts. Each relationship thus becomes an evolving micro-universe, unique and unrepeatable.

To make this narrative accessible and universal, Caterina uses an isotype system: a visual grammar composed of simple symbols and evocative illustrations capable of returning complex emotions in an immediate way. Each phase of the relationship is translated into a visual sign, into a graphic gesture that speaks to the most authentic and instinctive part of each of us.

“When People Meet” celebrates encounter as emotional nourishment, reminding us that what seems normal often holds our deepest extraordinary.

The project, along with all the finalist works from the “Normal is Extraordinary” international contest , will be on display at the MAXXI Corner from Dec. 5 to 8 (free admission).
