Modartech Institute student Federica Petri‘s collection stems from a reflection on adolescence as a phase of transition, fragility and transformation, in which the body changes and dressing becomes an emotional language.

Inspired by personal experience, Japanese subcultures such as kogals, and memories of the 1960s and 2000s, the research takes shape through a nostalgic aesthetic that combines childlike craftsmanship and reinterpreted street codes. Nostalgia becomes a creative tool: not a refuge in the past, but a lens to tell who we have been and who we want to become.

The project aims to celebrate the power of memory and the uniqueness of small things: what is considered “normal,” the uniform, the standardized, the simple garment, is elevated to the extraordinary through personalization and storytelling.

The collection is an intimate, visual and affective rebellion: a hand-sewn growth diary that mixes gentleness, irony and identity.

The work, along with all the finalists of the “Normal is Extraordinary” international contest, will be on display at the MAXXI Corner from December 5 to 8 (free admission).
