In Prato, many Chinese workers work quietly in textile factories, supporting families and fueling the local economy.
Among them was his father Jiayi Gao, who worked in a factory for years, becoming an invisible but indispensable presence.
In the sweltering heat of summer, every meter of fabric was sewn with effort, commitment and hope.
Chinese workers were fighting for children raised in Italy and parents far away in China, carrying the burden and responsibility of two generations.
Often invisible or victims of prejudice, they contributed to the prosperity of Prato’s textile industry with their silent work.
” Mani silenziose di Prato ” draws inspiration from these hidden lives.
“Normal is Extraordinary” is a tribute to those who build without fanfare, those who find strength in simplicity, silent sacrifices and the invisible dignity of those who continue to believe.
Jiayi Gao’s work celebrates the light that shines in daily toil-the subdued beauty of those who, with silent hands, weave the future every day.
All GTA Contest finalist projects will be on display at the Maxxi in Rome Dec. 5-8 during the AFAM Grand Festival, the concluding event of the AFAM Grand Tour.
